People are different. I spent the last week traveling with my husband, my two little kids, and my in-laws from Brazil. We stayed in a really nice house with a view of the Pacific Ocean from the deck. We loved it.
I arrived with a list of things I wanted to do but quickly realized that traveling with a bunch of Brazilians means that we take things slow– no rush in the morning, no list of things to do, no worries about not getting enough sights seen. That relaxed attitude has its merits for sure, but …
My list didn’t stay quiet because that’s just how I am. On my third morning in Carmel, my mom arrived and we took off down the hill for the Carmel Mission. There’s plenty more to say about this beautiful and historic place… for now, here are some of the views I was treated to when I took advantage of an additional 5 minutes and popped around the back corner of the mission. I’m so glad I didn’t miss the opportunity!
Have you been to a California mission?

Good thing your Mom showed up.
What a lovely looking spot – and I especially like your last photo.
I’d find it hard moving slowly in the morning – usually that’s when I want to be up and getting things done so I can relax in the afternoon.
Good luck with the rest of the visit.
I agree that it’s hard to move slowly in the morning when you want to be out seeing things, but at the same time, I was traveling with my kids, so I had to take it slowly with them anyway. And my in-laws are a pleasure to be around, so that made it nice.
Beautiful Mission pictures! We’ve only passed by the Carmel Mission and didn’t get the chance to visit. I’ve always loved visiting the California Missions for its architecture and history. We live by one so we’re pretty lucky. My daughter just did her recent 4th grade Mission project on Santa Barbara so we learned quite a lot too. Hopefully, I’ll get around to writing that post soon =)
Thanks for sharing! Living by a mission must be nice- which one do you live near? I do have to say that this one in Carmel seems to stand out in comparison to others in CA, but I have not been to many.
Jenna, we live by the Old Mission San Luis Rey in north San Diego. It’s the largest of the 21 missions. Although, we’ve been told that for a real Mission experience, La Purisima in Central California is the place to go.
I have not been to the mission near you, but I would like to visit s few more soon because the one in Carmel really blew me away
The mission was a real was a real highlight of my trip to Carmel, too – in part because we were together.
Love your photos!
no I haven’t, but these photos are perfect!
Wow, I visited Carmel, California some years ago with a friend of mine who was visiting me when I lived in CA. We ate at Clint Eastwood’s restaurant that he has on some property that he saved as a preserve or something. Wish I had seen that beautiful Church though!
I like the way the Brazilians travel. Nice and leisurely with no agenda!
Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks for the comment! We didn’t get to Eastwood’s restaurant but heard great things about it.
I’m glad you got to explore a bit of Carmel! Sometimes I find it difficult to travel with friends who like to sleep in and take things slowly. It makes me feel like I’m wasting precious time in an exotic destination…but then again I also have my days where I want to relax.
I completely agree about feeling like I’m wasting precious time, but in the end, everything worked out great on this trip. Their pace worked just fine. I didn’t see as much as I wanted to, but we all had a great time together.
