The California missions were built by the Spanish all along the California coast in the 18th and 19th centuries. With their influence of European architecture and art, they are rustic, historic, and, I think, very beautiful. This was taken in the courtyard of the Carmel Mission in the seaside town of Carmel, California.

I love California Missions!! My class did a huge project on them when I was in 3rd grade, so my mom decided our family should go on a road trip to see a bunch of them later that Spring. I can’t remember how many we saw, but afterward, we’d always make sure to stop at one or another on our way to other destinations throughout the years. I took D-Man to the one in Santa Barbara when he came to visit, but we didn’t go to the one in Carmel when we stayed at a hotel there… I wonder if I’ve already seen it with my parents though. I’ll have to ask.
