I love, love, love enclosed shopping centers/markets. I recently visited the Ferry Building in San Francisco and was just at Napa’s wonderful Oxbow Public Market again this week. And yesterday’s photo of the day was from one of São Paulo’s huge indoor markets.
The tradition of this kind of building originated in Europe. Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert in Brussels is the world’s first enclosed shopping center. Built in 1847 by King Leopold I, the gallery is filled with chic shops and cafes and makes for excellent window shopping and, in my case, a refuge from the rain.

Perfect for shopping in the winter time, or even on a rainy day!

With all the rain in Brussels, a place like this is necessary!
