Unexpected Hawaii — Photo of the Day

Hawaii is expensive but worth every penny, if you ask me. The Big Island of Hawaii has so much–black lava beaches, the Volcanoes National Park, excellent snorkeling, and this place, the Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park. After walking the historical park and seeing how Hawaiians used to live, we got in the water and swam with turtles! It was unexpected details like these that made me love Hawaii.

Those wooden sculptures are beautiful! We have visited Maui and Oahu but not the Big Island yet – would love to spend some time there. My girls were thrilled to see sea turtles from a boat when we were sailing back from the Molokini Crater on Maui – can’t imagine how they would react to seeing turtles swimming in the water with them!

I’m sure Hawaii is a great place to visit with kids. I would like to do that someday soon.

Alas, one of the places I wasn’t able to get to during a week’s stay on the Big Island five years ago.

Yes, Hawaii is definitely worth the splurge. We loved our visit to this park too. Those wooden statues were amazing. We didn’t get to swim with the turtles (lucky you!) but saw them on the sand and were such incredible creatures. One of the few things my daughter remembers from that trip.

That is so cool that the turtles were there on the sand. The fish that you can see in that little area are great, too.

Great shot, Jenna. Everyone talks about how expensive Hawaii is but it’s also amazingly beautiful. I guess I’ll just have to bite the bullet one of these days.

What a cool find on the island. Great pic. I loved visiting Volcanoes National Park. Just like most everything else about Hawaii — worth every penny.

We’ve been thinking of a family trip to Hawaii. There are so many places we’d like to go, but Hawaii just seems like it truly is paradise. Swimming with turtles might have just sold me.
