One of the most beautiful places I have been is the coast of Brazil between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states. The Rio-Santos highway travels between the ocean and the mountains, providing gorgeous scenery at every turn, and the colonial town of Paraty is no exception. Besides sleepy islands, perfectly preserved colonial architecture, and quaint cobbled streets, it also hosts the annual Paraty International Literary Festival in early July.
